UNDERGRADUATE AUDITIONS:
BFA in Performance & BFA in Musical Theatre
Audition Requirements
* For all programs please note that for Fall 2025 admission, the University deadline for housing and applications is April 1. *
BFA in Musical Theatre - Requires a prescreen through FAU Acceptd Site. The criteria for the prescreen is available at the Musical Theatre Common Prescreen site MTCP . We will accept prescreen submissions beginning September 1, 2024.
- January 15, 2025 - The deadline for accepting prescreens. In person auditions are highly recommended as you and your family can participate in an orientation, tour the department and University, see our shows, meet with students and faculty, visit local attractions, and get a real feel for the FAU experience.
- Saturday Feb 8, 2025 - Local auditions on the FAU campus .
- Friday Feb 7-9, 2025 - Attend our production of the musical 1776 in our University Theatre.
- Monday Feb 10, 2025 - Visiting students are invited to observe our Musical Theatre Vocal Craft class.
- Monday Feb 10, 2025 - Virtual auditions will be scheduled beginning at 5pm.
- Saturday Feb 22, 2025 - Notification of acceptances and alternates will go out.
- Tuesday April 1, 2025 - Deadline for Housing and FAU applications.
In addition, FAU representatives attend most musical theatre auditions at events such as the Florida Theatre Conference (FTC), Moonifieds, CAP, Unifieds, Florida Combined, Thespians, and other potential recruiting events.
On Campus Audition Requirements:
- Students should prepare two contrasting songs and a contemporary monologue, no more than one minute each. This may include the same material used in the Pre-screen. Please be prepared with an additional contrasting song and monologue. An accompanist will be provided.
- Bring dance/movement clothing. There is a dance/movement call. BFA Musical Theatre students will be in a variety of dance classes every semester and placed in a dance level that will challenge and strengthen their ability.
BFA in Acting - Requires a prescreen through Acceptd at the FAU Acceptd Site We will accept prescreen submissions beginning September 1, 2024.
- FAU will notify you of a callback invitation no later than January 20, 2025.
- On Campus Auditions February 8 and February 9, 2025.
- Friday Feb 7-9, 2025 - Attend our production of the musical 1776 in our University Theatre.
- Rolling admissions after February 8, 2025.
- Virtual Zoom Auditions February 10, 2025 and on an invitation basis until May.
Acceptance Dates:
Acceptance to the Theatre Performance BFA Track is typically offered by late February.
In addition, FAU representatives attend the Florida Theatre Conference (FTC).
On Campus Audition Requirements:
- Students should prepare two contrasting monologues no more than one minute each. This may include the same material used in the Pre-screen.
- Please be prepared with an additional contrasting monologue.
BFA in Design & Technology
Requires a prescreen through Acceptd at the FAU Acceptd Site We will accept prescreen submissions beginning September 1, 2024. Interviews are on the FAU campus Saturday February 8, 2025. Although we recommend interviewing on our beautiful campus so you can get a real feel for FAU, representatives also conduct interviews at the Florida Theatre Conference (FTC) and other potential recruiting events. For the FTC interview, requirements are listed on the FTC website. To attend this conference, high school students should register through their school drama teacher. College transfer students would need to register themselves at flatheatre.org.
Interview Requirements:
- Students should upload their portfolio and/or resume and be prepared to discuss their interests, design process, and goals.
GRADUATE AUDITIONS:
MFA in Performance
MFA in Performance is a full two-year acting intensive that trains ten superb students every two years. FAU attends URTAs every other spring. Our new MFA Class of 2026 has just started their training and we will not be recruiting until next year. Recruiting and audition information will be updated on this site and on our FAU Acceptd Site in the Fall of 2025.
MFA in Theatre Design & Technology
The MFA in Design and Technology is a highly selective degree program consisting of a 2-year in-residency, including two summer semesters, and 1 semester off-residence. The MFA Design/Tech curriculum is comprised of 60 credits of classroom study, practical performance and production experience, and the completion of a graduate thesis.

Interview Requirements:
- Students should register at the FAU Acceptd Site and upload their portfolio, resume and other required documents. A remote or in-person interview will be scheduled. Candidates should be prepared to discuss their interests, design process, and goals.
